Is Fashion Police dead? (The follow up)

Last time we covered the PR nightmare that is Giuliana Rancic. She made news by her comments on Zendaya Coleman’s hair which sent the twittersphere also known as twitterverse into a frenzy. We also came to the conclusion that it was an incident that even good PR possibly could not solve, because of the sensitivity of what was said.

Kelly Osbourne, one of the original panellist of Fashion Police quit the show. Now, Kathy Griffith the replacement of Joan Rivers has also called it quits. What was a popular weekly internationally aired Fashion Police, became focused on only airing shows around award season. Now there are rumours that it may be the end.As a Joan Ranger myself this is devastating news but is Giuliana’s stupidity the cause of all this? Let’s investigate.

In order for Guiliana to redeem herself she would need to somehow conjure up a plan to change the publics perception of her. As reported by Prowl Public Relations blog, she would need to work together with members of her E! network and host family to collectively show a change in character. If only the E! network were magicians because surprise surprise Giuliana did not manage to do this.

First it seems she tried to get some weird attention by mentioning dating Oscar winning actor and singer Jared Leto who just happens to be a heartthrob, a very long time ago. Now, this came across as fishy. She had all these years to mention it and she chose now? Seems like her attempt to deflect the negativity off her by associating herself with a likeable character.

Ah, and who can forget her constant defence on people calling her too skinny. "I'm sorry that some people think I'm disgustingly skinny, as they put it, but there's nothing I can do,". There may be less empathy for her defending her weight when she makes a living out of shaming the appearance of others distastefully.

And yes she is still mentioning the incident with Zendaya which makes her feel like the victim. Extreme abuse such as death threats online is not acceptable under any circumstances. However playing the victim card certainly does not do Giuliana any favours. In a recent interview with People magazine she said that "It was edited. And my words were taken out of context. If I thought this joke could be interpreted another way, I never would have done it. I felt horrible.". The problem with this is the constant use of I. Which may make her seem insincere because she’s already apologized and now she is playing the blame game. Which one is it Giuliana? And mentioning the incident over and over again makes it harder to forget. Let me put emphasis on the phrase bury the hatchet.

And now for Giuliana’s reputation. As a result of Giuliana’s incident the New York Post reported that “Kathy was troubled that people were finding the show to be sexist and even racist after the Zendaya comments,”. As for Kelly Osbourne, rumour has it that “there was no love lost between Osbourne and Rancic”. How will Giuilana demolish her rising mean girl reputation? With the help of good PR? Maybe the damage is beyond repair.

Either way with the show’s six month hiatus things do not look promising for E!’s Fashion Police.

  1. Juliana is milking the situation within this, she shouldn't have spoken much in order to save the career she had.

It seems like she's become even more famous and is happy to talk about it when Zendaya doesn't even speak about it which shows that Giuliana is totally playing victim.

  2. All TV shows eventually come to an end, only ones with huge budgets and a hardcore fan base stay alive for years. They just wanted to go out with a bang, which is why Juliana is trying to make the news!

  3. I don't really watch Fashion shows but one person can affect a lot of people in this case a seemingly profitable and marketable show. She had her chance and blew it.
